The opportunity to extend an elevator down to street level; installed in the early 80s it originally began on the first floor, was the spark a project that aims to restore some sense of the original splendor of the building’s lobby entrance.
The entrance, lined in Macael marble, and the pale green of the stucco vault, a favorite color of both “modernistas” and post-modernists, illuminates possible pathways.
At the end of the corridor, restored to its original height,is the elevator, now on the ground floor, newly bathed in an orb of light coming from the central courtyard whose restoration has allowed it to function as a social lodge that before was the objective of the now lost grand entrance hall.
